two of my favorite words in latin and greek are susurro and ψιθυρίζω (psithurizo, for those who don’t read greek). they both mean whisper in their respective languages. they’re such delightful words, because they showcase how important it is to read words aloud to get their full effect. say them softly, let them flit carefully past your lips, and you realize that the words themselves sound like a whisper as you say them. they are an echo of the past, the gentle rustle of the papyrus they were once preserved on, the hum of ghosts who spoke them with ancient tongues.
